Nevada Looking To Shorten 2012 SeasonNevada Dept. of Wildlife, Bear Hunting Magazine
Nevada state wildlife officials are proposing a shorter bear hunting season for 2012 and excluding the Tahoe Basin from hunting. While commissioners will not set hunting quotas for the season until May, they are looking at changing the dates of the 2012 hunt during their meeting being held in the beginning of February.
During the 2011 season, none of the 14 bears taken by hunters were killed in the Tahoe Basin and is the area that many opponents were against hunting being open to in the first place. The proposed season dates would be changed from an opening of September 15th instead of last years opening on August 20th.
