British Columbia Kills Three Grizzlies

British Columbia Conservation officers in the West Kootenay area destroyed three grizzly bears in less than a week after the bears devoured eight sheep grazing on a ranch near Edgewood. The bears were coming out of hibernation and apparently got a taste for sheep.

A Conservation officer was quoted as saying, "we do our best to relocate these animals but once they prey on stock, they come back and prey on more livestock it's something they realize is a food source for them."

Grizzlies came out hibernation early this year because of the milder winter and seem to be having a harder time finding food sources. Other communities in the interior areas of British Columbia have experienced similar problems with grizzlies so far this year.
