Original News Flash:
Canada officials have closed part of Banff National Park after a grizzly bear attacked and killed a small dog. Some back country campgrounds and the trails in the Skoki Valley area, including Skoki Lodge National Historic Site, have been shut down for the time being.
The attack happened last Thursday when the owner and the Jack Russell terrier, who was leashed, encountered the adult grizzly in the Skoki Valley area near Lake Louise.
Wildlife officials will continue to monitor the bear and its movements over the next few days. Parks Canada asks that visitors consider leaving their dogs at home when hiking in the mountain national parks.
