A 48 year-old man from Florida has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for illegally killing a black bear in the state. Florida has no bear hunting season.

The man was sentenced after pleading guilty to two misdemeanor charges after admitting to luring the bear to his land and shooting it with his bow. He was ordered to surrender his bow to the Florida FWC and given a $250 fine as well as the jail time.

FWC officers reported in August of finding a black bear that had been killed with a broadhead arrow in the Ocala National Forest. The officers followed a path of dried blood back to 48 year-olds home, where they found more dried blood and leftover corn and dog food.
