David Orazietti was appointed Ontario’s Minister of Natural Resources last week. After being appointed, his statements included some regarding bears in the province.

Orazietti weighed in on the subject of nuisance bears that have become a growing problem in Ontario. “I do have concerns about nuisance bears, because I’ve had to deal with many calls and complaints to my office."

However, he avoided a direct answer on bringing back a spring bear hunt. “There is a fall bear hunting season in Ontario,” he said. “My primary concern is about the safety of residents in our communities where this is a more prevalent issue. I will be speaking with officials within the MNR regarding the policies and procedures around bear management.”
