W Virginia Looking To Expand Bear SeasonsWV DNR, Bear Hunting Magazine
The West Virginia DNR is looking to expand its black bear hunting season in more than a dozen counties under changes proposed by the department. Hunting bears with firearms in these counties is currently restricted to December only.
The WV DNR is proposing allowing hunters to hunt bears with firearms during the 12-day firearm season for deer in late-November. The number of permits would be limited to prevent the harvest of too many bears.
The affected counties are Barbour, Braxton, Clay, Grant, Greenbrier, Hardy, Lewis, Mercer, Mineral, Monroe, Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Randolph, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Upshur and Webster.
The Natural Resources Commission is expected to vote on the proposed changes in April.
