A Marinette County, Wisconsin man is recovering from injuries suffered Wednesday when he was attacked by a black bear in his backyard. The man's wife was able to scare the bear away by hitting it with a shotgun.

The bear bit the man and clawed his back outside his cabin after he came outside trying to get his dog away from the bear. The bear turned on the man while the wife grabbed a shotgun, but was unable to load the shells into it. She was able to hit the bear over the head with the gun which made it let go of the man. The couple ran back into the cabin and called police.

The county sheriff's department arrived while the bear was still circling the cabin. At that point, the bear was shot and killed when it approached the responding officer.
