Oregon Man Kills Bear In Self-Defense

Oregon DFW, Bear Hunting Magazine

A Klamath County, Oregon man shot and killed a 350-pound black bear after it went after his dogs in his backyard and then turned towards him.

Officials stated that the man called to report that he shot the bear shortly after letting the dogs out. He had heard the dogs barking and then a roar, so he grabbed a rifle and went out. This is when the bear turned towards the man in an aggressive manner.

The man fired twice at the bear. It then ran off where authorities found it approximately one hundred yards away. Oregon state biologists examined the bear and then gave it to the Klamath Tribes for dispersal to tribal members.

At this time, the man faces no charges as state law allows for residents to use lethal force in such circumstances without a permit.
