Alaskan Brown Bear Euthanized After Incident With SUV

Anchorage. Alaska authorities euthanized a brown bear after it was struck on the Glenn Highway near Eagle River Thursday afternoon.

Local police received a call around 3:30pm yesterday afternoon regarding the collision. According to reports, an SUV traveling south struck the bear near a weigh station in the Hiland Road area. The bear was reportedly in the median of the highway after it was hit. The bear was still alive, but was very injured and need to be put down.

The highway's southbound lanes were closed as officials responded and reopened about a half hour later. Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologists collected the bear from the scene. The occupants in the SUV did not report any injuries.
