Saturday, Nov 23 marks the first black bear bow hunt in Kentucky history. The season is 10 days long, or until the 10 boar/5 sow quota is filled. Steven Dobey, Bear Program Coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, noted the general public apprehension to increased bear hunting usually comes from misinformed public media portrayal of bears as cute and cuddly, but that the hunt is a necessary part of management techniques.
