Black Bear Caught In Washington State

After eluding wildlife agents for two weeks, a young black bear has been caught in Puyallup, Washington. Agents said it was a 3-year-old male and weighed about 175 pounds.

It was tranquilized after a Pierce County sheriff's canine unit chased it up a tree. State Fish and Wildlife agent Justin Maschhoff says the bear has been released in the Olympic Peninsula.

Residents in Puyallup's South Hill area had first reported seeing a bear April 1. When it was spotted at Bradley Lake Park a few days later, city officials closed the park to let wildlife agents track it there. The bear ignored traps set in the park and nearby neighborhoods, relying on nighttime garbage can raids for food.
