Changes to Michigan Bear Hunting

MI DNR, Bear Hunting Magazine

Michigan's 2009 bear hunting season is still more than 5 months away, but there will be some changes that those who get permits will need to know about before they, or their hounds, hit the woods this fall.

One of those changes involves establishing a 5-day quiet period before the hunt. During that time, hunters will not be allowed to run their dogs in the woods. And this year, bait sites will be limited to no more than three per hunter.

Hunters must apply for the bear lottery between May 1, 2009 and June 1, 2009.
