If you live in Wisconsin and are interested in hunting bear, the state Department of Natural Resources will be holding a Learn to Bear Hunt program on August 28-30, 2009 and those interested in attending have until May 30, 2009 to file an application. The drawing for spots will be held June 10, 2009.

The program is open to anyone with two years or less experience hunting bears and young hunters are encouraged to apply.

Program participants will learn bear habits and behavior, hunting ethics, effective hunting techniques and safe firearm use from a team of mentors.

The program is also looking for bear-hunting mentors to provide program leadership. Mentors must be certified; to apply for certification, prospective mentors must fill out an application and turn it in to a local wildlife official.

For more info on the Learn to Hunt program, contact Ben Mott, LTH coordinator at (608) 444-1244 or Todd Schaller, DNR program manager at (608) 267-2774.
