A Carrabelle, Florida man was arrested last week and charged with killing a black bear after a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigator saw him shoot the animal with a bow and arrow. The 175-pound sow ran only 50 feet after being hit with the arrow and was shot on private property.
Black bears are classified as a threatened species in Florida and are fully protected so there is no season for taking bears.
The 59 year-old man was charged with one count of killing a black bear, a felony, and his bow and arrow were seized as evidence.
