A small bear was killed earlier this week when it walked into a Raton, New Mexico hardware store. The city of Raton, located on Highway 25 just south of the Colorado border, has a population of around 9,300. State officials killed the bear after it left the store and was seen running through a busy part of the town in the middle of the day. The one-year old black bear was found in a nearby backyard.

New Mexico Game and Fish officials stated that the situation could have turned dangerous, which is why officials killed the bear after determining the bears actions were not good and could more than likely lead to more run-ins with residents in the area.
