If you have enjoyed the Bear’n Down series over the years then you are sure to like this one, too. They cover a wider variety of bear hunting in this DVD than ever before. There is, of course, the usual hunts over bait but there is also a variety of spot and stalk hunts from Alaska, Newfoundland and British Columbia. It is great to see boat based hunts for black bear on the coastal beaches and tidal flats as well as hunting the logging roads through clear-cuts and remote fly-in brown bear hunts. They have really mixed the hunts up with 15 different hunters using compound bow, rifle, crossbow and muzzleloader. Several hunters get their first bear and it is exciting to see their reactions as well as those of veteran bear hunters who truly enjoy the adrenaline rush of bear hunting.
Hunters had to adapt to smart bears and weather conditions on many of the hunts. Moving tree stands, using ground blinds and just waiting out the rain are all part of hunting. Several tips and bear hunting information is included throughout the video which is valuable to new hunters and a good refresher to others There are a lot of hunts and a lot of bears taken but it is not a whack ‘em and stack ‘em production. It is a well put together production with a good mix of introductions, hunting and information. It is also great to see that they are including youth on the bear hunts, something we all need to work on. Not every hunt is successful and the biggest bear of all lives on.
